Hispanic Heritage Month is a month to celebrate the contributions made by those in the Hispanic community and honor their histories and cultures. These individuals represent over 17% of the U.S. population and have quickly become the largest minority in the United States. This special month occurs each year from September 15th-October 15th, and we want to highlight one of the fastest growing members of the trucking community and their importance within the trucking industry.

Currently, there is a truck driver shortage occurring within the United States. A main reason is due to the trucking industry’s main work force aging out and entering retirement. This is daunting since truckers haul over 70% of the total freight that is moved in the U.S. It is not unheard of for truck drivers to be referred to as “movers of the economy”. As a result, more minorities are being turned to to fill that driver need. With the Hispanic community continuing to grow in population, they are being turned to more in trucking recruitment.

Today, more than 12% of commercial drivers are Hispanic and there are over a million Hispanic non-driver employees of USDOT trucking companies.  There are also more than 250,000 Hispanic-owned trucking companies in the United States. As we all know, the trucking industry is difficult for most. Truckers must deal with being alone for long periods of time, grueling traffic, all types of weather, and most importantly spending days on end away from their loved ones.  However, the Hispanic truck force is a growing presence, stepping up and making their mark.

Likewise, the trucking industry is catching up to meet the demand of Hispanic drivers.  For example, there is a subdivision of the Western States Trucking Association called the Coalition of American-Latino Drivers who facilitate the needs of Spanish speaking drivers.  In addition, Transporte Latino Magazine is a publication dedicated to bringing Hispanic truckers a wealth of industry knowledge in Spanish.

FCS is proud to work with truckers and trucking companies of all backgrounds, including the Hispanic community. Our business believes in the three F’s, to be Fast, Fair, and Flexible and we strive to help ALL our carriers as best we can.  Our own staff is filled with diversity. We have dedicated Spanish speaking employees in both our sales and customer service departments that work extensively to fill the needs of our Spanish speaking carriers.  We want to make the financing process as easy as possible, and we are glad we can provide this service. The face of the truck driver is changing, and Financial Carrier Services is proud to celebrate the drivers who are a part of that change.
